Qld swelters through heatwave

Southeast Queensland has been spared the full brunt of a heatwave sweeping the state, but inland areas have sweltered.

Most parts of Brisbane didn't reach 30C on Saturday, although the humidity made things uncomfortable regardless.

However, inland it was a different story, with temperatures in the low to mid 40s recorded in areas from Roma and Dalby up to Mt Isa.

Weather Bureau forecaster Dean Narramore said the southeast corner benefited from a sea breeze which kept the temperature from reaching the predicted high.

"But as soon as we move out to the western suburbs we're still seeing those temperatures get to those mid-to-high 30s," Mr Narramore said.

"And spare a thought for those people out towards the ranges and further west where they're seeing a day in the low to mid 40s."

Some areas around Toowoomba, Dalby and Roma recorded temperatures up to nine degrees above average.

The weather split of a cooler southeast corner and sweltering inland is expected to continue on Sunday and into next week, with some relief expected by Wednesday.
