Qld sailor faces extradition over NT death

Northern Territory police will seek the extradition of a a Cairns sailor over the death of an elderly man in Darwin.
The 23-year-old Australian Defence Force member handed himself in to Cairns police on Tuesday.
NT police said the man was arrested over the manslaughter of a 68-year-old man following an alleged assault in Darwin on August 9.

"It is alleged the victim was walking along Mitchell Street when an altercation took place between the two men and the 68-year-old man was struck and fell to the ground," police said in a statement.
The man died in hospital on August 22.
The sailor will face an extradition hearing in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
