More hailstorms set to hit southeast Qld

Hail is expected to continue to batter southeast Queensland a day after a large thunderstorm cut power to 4000 Brisbane properties.

The Bureau of Meteorology on Wednesday afternoon issued a severe thunderstorm warning for areas to the north of the Sunshine Coast, between Noosa Heads and Gympie.

"Damaging winds and large hailstones are possible," the bureau warned. "Small hail is considered likely."

The storm was expected to hit the region around 4.25pm AEST.

Residents have been urged to move their cars under cover, avoid using phones during the storm and to seek shelter.

Tuesday's storm battered Brisbane residents with hail and rain, with localised flooding in some areas.

Suburbs in the city's west were hit particularly hard, with power being cut to about 4000 homes mainly in Auchenflower, Taringa and Toowong.
