Qld man charged over 'terror funds'

A Queensland man has faced court charged with dealing with money that could have been used to fund terrorist operations overseas.

Robert Louis Maestracci, 32, was arrested by counter-terrorism police who raided his home at Kingston, south of Brisbane, on Thursday morning.

The Brisbane-born man was charged with dealing with money that could become an instrument of crime against the Crimes (Foreign Incursions and Recruitment) Act.

Australian Federal Police (AFP) said the arrest was part of a continuing operation jointly conducted with local police.

"It will be alleged ... the man was reckless to the fact that there was a risk he was dealing with money that would have become a central part of a criminal activity, namely funding people to travel overseas to fight," the AFP said in a statement.

The alleged offence occurred on February 28 this year.

Maestracci was granted bail on condition he have no contact with two associates - including a man named Adrian Vae Vae - or visit an address at Runcorn in Brisbane's south.

His case was adjourned to October 17.

Vae Vae has been named as an associate of Omar Succarieh, who was arrested earlier this month and charged with funding Syrian extremist group Jabhat al-Nusra.

Succarieh, 31, and Agim Kruezi, 22, were arrested after raids at an Islamic bookshop and several other properties in the Brisbane region on September 10.

Kruezi is accused of recruiting another person to the Islamic State group and preparing for incursions into Syria.

Last week about 800 AFP, NSW and Queensland police raided homes across Sydney and Brisbane in the country's largest anti-terrorism operation.

Those raids didn't produce any arrests in Brisbane.
