Qld man charged over bid to stab constable

A man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked an officer at a police station in the Queensland's far north.

The man is alleged to have turned up at the Babinda Police Station on Friday evening and lunged at an officer with a knife while making threats.

The 36-year-old male constable managed to disarm the man who allegedly fought violently and attempted to push the officer from a balcony. It took the assistance of another officer to subdue the man.

A 19-year-old Babinda man has been charged with attempted murder among other charges and is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Saturday.
