Qld man admits to child porn charges

A Queensland man who admitted to keeping a child porn stash of more than 4000 files has been sentenced to four years in jail.

Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) officers searched the Ipswich home of Jesse John Howe, 29, in 2014, after he was identified as using peer-to-peer software to access and share child pornography

A number of computers and storage devices were seized from the Ebbw Vale property, which were later found to contain over 4000 image and movie files.

On Thursday, he appeared in the Brisbane Supreme Court and pleaded guilty to six counts of accessing and possessing child exploitation material and one of aggravated networking.

Howe was handed a four year sentence with a non-parole period of one year and nine months.

The CCC's Acting Executive Director of Crime, Michael Scott, said the watchdog targeted criminals who shared child pornography because they were responsible for creating a market for such material.

"Every child depicted in child exploitation material, whether they are based in Australia or overseas, has been subjected to criminal behaviour," Mr Scott said.

"Internet-based pedophiles are insidious and they commit very serious criminal offences."

The CCC charged 11 people with over 150 child pornography offences in the financial year to 2015.

So far this financial year, 12 people have been charged with over 85 offences.
