Qld Labor secretary 'in Senate bid'

Queensland Labor state secretary Anthony Chisholm is reportedly set to step aside from his role to stand for the Senate.

The Courier-Mail says Mr Chisholm will resign from the party on Thursday, and will assume the position of campaign manager for Labor's state election campaign.

"It is clear that, with Annastacia Palaszczuk as leader of the party, there is enormous opportunity at the next state election to make significant inroads to the massive majority this arrogant Newman government has," the paper quoted Mr Chisholm as saying in the yet-to-be-delivered resignation letter.

"The party needs to seize this opportunity and I am confident a change in the administrative arrangements within the party will enable us to do just that."

The Australian has reported that Joe Ludwig is likely to retire from the Senate to make way for Mr Chisholm.

But it said Mr Chisholm could still be challenged at Senate preselection by rival right-wing candidate Cameron Milner.

Bligh government MP Evan Moorhead has been touted as the party's next state secretary.
