Qld inquest told of dumped bloody clothes

The bloody clothes of person-of-interest Michael Laine in the cold-case murder of Queensland schoolgirl Annette Mason were dumped outside Toowoomba, an inquest has heard.

A witness, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has claimed he heard two people had disposed of Mr Laine's clothes in a waterway 20 kilometres outside of town the day after Annette died in 1989.

The 15-year-old Annette was found raped and beaten to death in her bed in a house she shared with friends after a night out in Toowoomba.

The witness also said he had been physically attacked by Mr Laine six-to-nine months after the murder.

"He was just a violent person," the man told the inquest on Wednesday.

No one has ever been charged with Annette's murder.

The Brisbane inquest is hearing evidence from an extended circle of people associated with two main persons-of-interest - Mr Laine and Allan McQueen.

Former Toowoomba resident Margaret Reis claimed people who spoke to police about the crime were considered "dogs" who were breaking a code of silence.

"Not nowadays. Back then, yeah, I would have (thought they were)," Ms Reis testified.

The inquest continues.
