Qld apologises for Anzac transport foul-up

Queensland's deputy premier has apologised for a transport bungle that made hundreds of people miss Brisbane's Anzac dawn service.

An estimated record 40,000 people attended the service in Brisbane's Anzac square on Saturday morning.

But it seems hundreds more missed out after public transport provider TransLink failed to put on enough buses, trains and ferries to meet demand for the early morning event.

Angry commuters left stranded at bus stops have called talkback radio stations on Monday and taken to social media to vent their frustrations.

Edric Marquart, 26, said he had waited at a bus stop at Woolloongabba with his girlfriend for about 20 minutes before the bus arrived late but didn't stop because it was already full.

"In the end, we decided to get a cab because we didn't want to miss the service," Mr Marquart told AAP.

"There were about 20 people still at the bus stop when we left."

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, who's also the state's transport minister, openly admitted her department had got it wrong.

"Can I just say up front, I would like to personally apologise to those people who tried to get to a dawn service but found there were insufficient public transport services available," Ms Trad said.

She said her department did put on additional services for 10,000 extra commuters, but it was "clearly not enough".
