The Palaszczuk government will continue its week-long blitz of Queensland's far north with events from Cairns to Thursday Island.

Education Minister Kate Jones will visit Thursday Island schools on Tuesday while ministers will also travel to Mossman and Port Douglas.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will again be in Cairns as she and her minority Labor government attempt to shore up support ahead of the next state election.

Ms Palaszczuk played down the upcoming election as a a reason for the trip on Monday, saying they regularly do regional tours as a government.

However with the government needing to secure the far northern seats of Cairns and Cook, the opposition says it's clear they're trying to win over voters in key seats.

Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls, who has been openly making election commitments for the last fortnight, continues to call on the premier to name a date for the next election to end uncertainty for businesses.
