An inquest examining whether anything could have been done to prevent the death of a young Queensland girl who swallowed a battery will begin on Tuesday.

Sunshine Coast girl Summer Steer was four years old when she went into cardiac arrest on June 30, 2013, after ingesting a 2cm lithium button battery.

Coroner John Hutton will hear the matter in Maroochydore Magistrates Court over two days, where at least seven witnesses are expected to be called, including Summer's mother and three doctors from Noosa Hospital.
