Qld firefighter legislation under review

The Queensland government is being urged to abandon legislation that would require volunteer firefighters to fight a quota of fires to qualify for workers' compensation.

The law would require volunteer firefighters to fight 150 fires over five years before they could become eligible for work-related cancer compensation.

A committee reviewing the legislation was due to table a report in state parliament on Friday but will now present their findings on Tuesday.

Opposition emergency services spokesman Jarrod Bleijie says the proposed legislation is an "insult to volunteer firefighters".

"Having one rule for volunteers and another for full-time firefighters is discrimination," he said in a statement.
