Qld doctor punished for hog-tying boy

A Gold Coast doctor who hog-tied a seven-year-old boy during a consultation has been placed on a good behaviour bond.

Neville Davis, 60, was on Wednesday found guilty of assaulting the child during an October 2012 consultation.

A trial last year in the Southport Magistrates Court was told the boy has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and was tied up and sat on by Davis.

The paediatrician said he tied the boy up as a distraction technique but denied sitting on him.

He said he had been attempting to calm the boy down so he could speak to his mother.

Davis denied he laughed when the boy cried at him to get off because it was hurting.

He also rejected claims he'd threatened to flush the child's head down a toilet.

However, Southport Magistrate Paul Johnstone returned a guilty verdict on Wednesday.

He placed Davis on a $1000 good behaviour bond for 12 months, and did not record a conviction.
