A Queensland council staff member has been charged with 24 fraud offences by the state's corruption watchdog.

The Townsville man, 50, is an employee of the Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council, according to a statement released by the Crime and Corruption Commission on Saturday.

He was arrested, charged and released on bail in Brisbane on Friday afternoon to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on July 26.
