Queensland police want to speak to anyone who can shed light on the suspicious death of a nine-month-old baby at Ipswich.

Police found the boy's body at a Sonter Street home at Raceview on June 21.

Inspector David Briese said on Tuesday that the cause of death was still unknown, but that it is being treated as suspicious.

Police are still awaiting the results of an autopsy and other forensic tests.

Insp Briese said detectives from the Yamanto Child Protection Unit and State Crime Command Child Trauma Unit had already interviewed a number of people.

However he said there were still gaps in their understanding of how the baby died.

"We have searched high and low for friends and associates and anyone who knows that family but that doesn't mean we have spoken to everyone," he said.

"We are appealing to anyone who may know that family, who has an understanding of the habits around the family and the children to come forward."

Insp Briese would not confirm if the family was know to police or the Department of Child Safety.
