Package under car 'harmless': Qld cops
Police say a suspicious package found under a car in Brisbane is harmless.
Police were called to the Fortitude Valley address on Thursday morning after the owner of the vehicle notified them about a strange device stowed under the car.
"A device has been located, it is harmless," Acting Inspector Regional Duty Officer Greg Veivers said, likening it to a GPS unit.
Insp Veivers said the closed-off portion of Arthur Street would reopen around noon after having been cleared by specialist police officers.
The device would be examined further by scientific officers and local detectives, Insp Veivers said.
Asked if the package had been done up to appear like a bomb, he said a GPS device would be "more along the right lines".
He said investigations were ongoing to determine how long the package had been there.
Police have no suspects at this stage.
