Petition to up Qld child sex penalties

A petition to increase the penalties for child sex offenders is closing in on its target of 150,000 signatures before it's delivered to Queensland's premier and attorney-general.

The Change.org petition has already received more than 132,000 responses and it cites the case of Gary Brabham, the son of racing legend Sir Jack Brabham, who served six months of an 18-month sentence for raping a six-year-old girl before being released.

"It's time to put an end to these dangerously lenient sentences for child sex abusers in Queensland - please sign and share my petition to the Premier!" the organiser posted.
