Queensland's premier has cancelled a blitz of three regional electorates and raced back to Brisbane.

Campbell Newman started the day in Cairns and was expected to make flying visits to at least two other marginal seats.

But the premier's minders have cut short his trip, saying the focus of the day should be Labor's long-awaited costings release and law-and-order policy.

They said they want to make sure the Liberal National Party can fully analyse and respond to Labor's policies.

Mr Newman's campaign convoy rolled onto the tarmac at Cairns airport before turning back so the LNP could reorganise flights.

It's understood local journalists were waiting for the premier to arrive in Townsville.

The LNP has been criticising Labor's lack of costings or overarching plans since the election was called.

The premier, Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney and Treasurer Tim Nicholls are yet to call a press conference, but they are expected to do so after Labor unveils its plans.
