Homicide detectives are appealing for help to find a car they believe is connected to the murder of a Gold Coast man.

Mark Spencer, 37, was beaten to death on the back patio of his home on Foxwell Road in Coomera in the early hours of October 1.

His housemate witnessed the attack by a man wearing a balaclava.

Police on Monday released CCTV footage of a dark 2008 or 2009 Ford Falcon sedan spotted leaving Mr Spencer's home the night he was killed.

There was one male passenger in the vehicle which was driven by a woman.

"We can't be sure until we've located the vehicle, but obviously we're quite satisfied the vehicle we've identified in the CCTV is connected to this offence," Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson told media on Monday.

"We have a number of avenues of inquiries that we're still following, but this is certainly an exciting lead for us."

Det Supt Hutchinson is urging anyone who saw the vehicle between Coomera and Runaway Bay between 3am and 4am on October 1 to contact police.

Mr Spencer suffered severe head injuries in what police believe was a targeted attack by someone he knew.
