Incredible moment couple and their dog rescued after being stranded on mountain

Drone vision has captured the moment a couple and their dog were rescued 12 hours after becoming stranded on a mountain in Queensland.

The 67-year-old man and 50-year-old woman set off on their journey on Mount Philp, near the border with New South Wales, about 8am on Saturday.

They quickly ran into trouble about 2pm that same day, when the man suffered foot injuries from a fall.

After calling for help, emergency service workers across several agencies got to work to retrieve the husband and wife.

Strong winds meant they were unable to airlift the pair out and crews were forced to hike across the mountainous terrain to them instead.

In the meantime, police said the hikers stayed where they were and made a fire to keep warm in cold conditions.

"Crews reached the couple by 10.20pm and managed to complete the rescue by 2.30am," police said.

The man, who was carried out on a stretcher, was taken to Toowoomba Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has been transferred to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane for further treatment.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

His wife was uninjured.

"It was a long day, but in the end, it was a great outcome for all involved," Search and Rescue co-ordinator senior constable Dale Jeppesen said.

Police took the opportunity to remind hikers to plan ahead in case the worst should happen.
