McCulkin murder case returns to court

Two men charged with the 1974 murders of a Brisbane mother and her daughters have had their cases mentioned in court.

Vincent O'Dempsey, 76, and Gary Reginald Dubois, 67, are in custody and were not required to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

Both men are charged with murdering Barbara McCulkin, 34, and daughters Vicki, 13, and Leanne, 11, more than 40 years ago.

They are also facing further related charges, including three counts each of deprivation of liberty.

The McCulkins vanished from their Highgate Hill home in January 1974, sparking one of Queensland's most baffling murder mysteries.

On Monday, Crown prosecutor Suzanne Phillips asked for a six-week adjournment of the case, saying the brief of evidence was "extremely large".

Lawyers who appeared for O'Dempsey and Dubois did not oppose the delay and the case was set down for another committal mention on March 30.

Dubois, of Torbanlea, is expected to apply for bail next month.

His Supreme Court bail hearing last week was adjourned until March 20.
