Man with laser allegedly targets police helicopter in Queensland

A man accused of shining a blinding laser pointer into the cockpit of a police helicopter has been charged with threatening the safety of an aircraft.

The chopper was sent to Loganlea on Saturday night after commercial airlines complained they'd also been targeted with a laser pointer.

As the helicopter flew over the suburb it too was targeted by someone on the ground in the vicinity of Monash Street.

"POLAIR1 tracked the man as he fled to his address before requesting assistance from Logan Dog Squad who attended the man's residence and allegedly located a laser," police said.

The 22-year-old has been charged with threatening the safety of an aircraft or of person's on board an aircraft, and possessing restricted items.

He's due to front the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
