Man rescues fellow surfer with onboard CPR

An "inventive" surfer is being praised for giving CPR to a fellow wave-catcher on his board after finding the man floating face down in waters off the Gold Coast.

Paramedic Clint Peters said the 58-year-old was "unconscious and unresponsive" when he was hauled from the waves by the other surfer at Currumbin on Wednesday morning.

After a few compressions, he said the man vomited up a "significant" amount of water before being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The man had no memory of what had happened when he regained consciousness, Mr Peters said.

"I think it was quite inventive and obviously quite important," he said of the other surfer's actions.

"But to actually ... attempt CPR while still out on the surf is very advantageous and a brave thing to do."
