Man dead in far north Qld hit and run

A 20-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in a far North Queensland mining town on Saturday.

Police say the man was struck by a motorist on Northern Avenue in Weipa around 3am and later died at the scene.

Detectives will travel from Cairns to the scene and are urging witnesses to contact authorities on 131 444.
