Man charged with Qld car park murder

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a Queensland woman in the car park of a Fraser Coast motel.

The 58-year-old woman died following reports of a disturbance at the Maryborough City Motel on Ferry Street about 5am Saturday.

On Sunday, Maryborough detectives charged a 22-year-old man with murder.

Speaking to reporters at the crime scene, Acting Detective Inspector Wade Lee said initial investigations suggested the woman knew her assailant.

"This is not a random attack," he told reporters on Saturday.

"There are a number of witnesses who were at the motel at the time and they are assisting us with inquiries."

The man has been denied bail and is due to appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Monday.
