Man charged over Rocky generator thefts

A man has been charged over the theft of much-needed generators in the cyclone-stricken Rockhampton area.

The 25-year-old man, who is a Rockhampton local, has been charged with receiving tainted property.

Another man is also assisting police with their inquiries.

The charge comes after an appeal by police on Wednesday for more information regarding the theft of 17 generators in the disaster-affected area.

Most of these generators were used to power dangerous traffic intersections.

The 17 generators were taken in a time period from Saturday to Tuesday, when many residents were stranded without power in the wake of the devastating category five storm that hit Rockhampton on Friday.

The 25-year-old will front Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 6.
