An Iraqi man is facing fraud charges over his alleged involvement in a Middle Eastern identity theft syndicate operating in Queensland.

It's alleged the 47-year-old was involved with the ring, which has reaped more than $1 million from financial institutions in the past six months.

He's facing one count of fraud and is scheduled to front the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.

High quality forged identifications were extremely valuable to organised crime gangs, Detective Inspector Phillip Stevens said.

He said the arrest was related to an ongoing investigation that has so far netted four arrests and uncovered $300,000 in cash in a car.
