Man, 25, questioned over Qld 'car chase'

A 25-year-old Queensland man is being interviewed by detectives after he allegedly led them on a dangerous pursuit through the streets of Townsville before slamming into a tree.

The man, who had a 20-year-old female passenger in the car when he caught the attention of officers on Thursday afternoon, drove on the wrong side of the road, weaved through traffic and collided with several other cars during the incident.

A short police pursuit was authorised but aborted when the man's driving became more dangerous and the car was later found on the Bruce Highway after it had collided with a tree.
