Langlands' abuse case to return to court

Historical child abuse allegations made against Australian rugby league "Immortal" Graeme Langlands are set to return to a Brisbane court next week.

Langlands, 76, was earlier this month charged by Queensland Police's Child Safety and Sexual Crime Group with six counts of indecent dealing with a girl under 16.

It is alleged the offences occurred on the Gold Coast in the early 1980s.

The Brisbane Magistrates Court heard on Thursday that Langlands currently lives in a nursing home in NSW and suffers from severe dementia that prohibits him from travelling.

His legal team are expected to ask the case to be referred to the Mental Health Court on the grounds Langlands is not fit to answer the charges when the matter is heard again on Monday.

In 1999, Langlands was given the status of "Immortal", a title bestowed to only eight of rugby league's all-time greats.

The former St George Dragons fullback and goal kicker, nicknamed "Changa", represented Australia in 45 Tests.
