Judge's Palmer link delays Mineralogy case

A legal battle between Clive Palmer's Mineralogy and a Singapore-based exploration firm has been adjourned after a Queensland justice stated she'd once acted for a company linked to the mining magnate.

It comes after Mineralogy lodged a claim with the Supreme Court in April seeking a declaration that it is not obliged to pay BGP Geoexplorer any money.

BGP Geoexplorer responded with a notice to defend and counter-claim of its own about a month later.

But the matter was adjourned following a directions hearing on Wednesday after Justice Roslyn Atkinson told the court she'd acted for a Clive Palmer-associated company in the late 1980s.

She said she later disclosed this out of an abundance of caution when she first came on the court and no formal objections were made to her hearing such matters.

Two years ago, her associate had been contacted about the connection but no application was brought for her to disqualify herself from the proceeding, she added.

However, Mineralogy legal representative Nick Ferrett sought Wednesday's hearing be adjourned in light of Justice Atkinson's comments to gather material for an application.

The matter will return to court on Friday.
