Jobs to blame for One Nation popularity

Queensland's education minister Kate Jones says a lack of job security is to blame for the re-emergence of One Nation as a political force.

A Galaxy poll, published by News Corp on the weekend, showed more than one in six voters support One Nation at state level.

"There are a lot of people out there who expect the government to work really hard to create jobs. People are doing it tough ... and they're expressing it with their vote," Ms Jones told reporters a state cabinet meeting being held at the Brisbane Royal Show.

She conceded the government needed to work harder to create jobs.

"It's a clear message to all major political parties ... to ensure the economic benefits are shared equally across all parts of Australia."

Health Minister Cameron Dick said One Nation, like any political party needs to be respected, but he refused to be drawn in on what would happen if they had the balance of power following the next election.

He said the government needed to focus on the job at hand and not hypothesise about what may happen at the next election.

"They did very well it the federal level and that may play out at the state level but we can't be distracted by what other parties do," Mr Dick said.
