Jail term begins for Qld robbery shooter

A man who shot another man in the face during a Gold Coast robbery has begun a prison sentence for the crime.

Daniel James Long, 24, was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment on Friday after pleading guilty to his role in the break-in at an Ashmore home in January 2017.

Long, who pleaded guilty to charges of malicious act with intent and burglary at the Brisbane Supreme Court, has been given a non-parole period of two years and two months.

Armed with a sawn-off rifle, he and co-accused Ricky Eastman broke into the home having previously bought drugs there.

After telling a female occupant "you're getting robbed, babe", Long shot a man inside the home while he was sleeping in a bed.

The victim suffered long-term injuries including 22 per cent vision loss and a depressed eye socket.

Justice Ann Lyons described the crime as "callous and cowardly".

Eastman was given a three-year sentence but was granted immediate parole and released on Friday.
