Inquest resumes into disappeared soldier

A coronial inquest into the disappearance of an army officer who was last seen at a house party 18 years ago is due to resume in Brisbane on Wednesday.

Sean Sargent's family, military and police investigators have told in previous hearings about their efforts to find him since he disappeared on March 19, 1999.

Mr Sargent, then 24, vanished after attending a party with friends at a share house in the Brisbane suburb of St Lucia.

Kate Gubanyi, then a journalism student who had been living in the house, told the court in May she had been told Mr Sargent scuffled with her army reserve housemate at the party.

The fight was brief and was broken up by other revellers, the court heard.

Coroner John Hutton has indicated he would find Mr Sargent had died in unknown circumstances.

His father, sister and ex-girlfriend all believe he's dead.
