Huge swell keeps Gold Coast beaches closed

Gold Coast's beaches will be closed for a fourth straight day due to the wild weather which has lashed Australia's east coast.

Gold Coast City Council made the call to keep beaches shut on Tuesday following another day of huge waves on the tourist strip's beaches brought about by a king tide and powerful northeasterly swell.

The Coast is set to see a pumping swell for several days yet before waves drop to a manageable two metres for boardriders.

The waves have already dropped in size from the weekend, when one huge 15m monster was reportedly recorded off Tweed Heads, but remain large and dangerous.
