Fire damages two homes in Brisbane's west

Two houses in Brisbane's west have suffered severe damage after being engulfed by fire.

Emergency services were called to Horizon Drive, Westlake, at 11am on Thursday following initial reports of a house and garage on fire, which then spread to a neighbouring property.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze at about midday but the houses suffered significant damage, with the roof of one collapsing entirely.

Footage taken by a news helicopter shortly after showed huge flames and thick smoke rising from the blazes.

Earlier, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said all persons were accounted for and five crews were on scene battling to extinguish the fires.
