'Hero' dog Snoopy wins Queensland award

Queensland's RSPCA will present a special award to a dog that helped save his family from a raging house fire.

Snoopy the beagle alerted the owners of the Acacia Ridge home, in Brisbane's south, to flames downstairs before it was eventually gutted by the blaze last Friday.

The house had fire alarms, but firefighters said the fire was so intense it initially contained very little smoke.

Snoopy's owner Bill Winter, who was at home with his two children, said he had no doubt the beagle saved their lives.

"He's always been a wonderful dog but he's truly special now," he said.

Snoopy will be presented with an Animal Achievement Award - and a bone - at the RSPCA's Wacol animal care campus on Friday.
