Half cyclone premises still without power

Power is being restored to cyclone-hit Queensland properties but about half of those knocked off the grid when Marcia tore through central parts of the state remain without electricity.

About 35,000 of the 69,500 premises that lost power had been restored as of Wednesday morning, Ergon spokesman Mark Timmerman said.

He said the urban areas of Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast should be reconnected by the weekend.

However, the logistical efforts of repairing the heavily damaged network may delay reconnection in outlying areas until the middle of next week.

Mr Timmerman said emergency generators had been supplied to some of those outlying townships to temporarily restore power to infrastructure like local stores and water supplies.
