‘Good Samaritans’ allegedly steal man’s car on the Gold Coast
A man was left stranded on the Gold Coast after a group of apparent Good Samaritans allegedly double-crossed him and stole his car.
The man’s blue Audi had broken down after running out of fuel on the side of the Gold Coast Highway on Friday night.
The trio drove the man to a service station to fill a jerry can with fuel to get his Audi back on the move. 9News
That’s when a van pulled up with a woman and two men, one of which claimed to be a mechanic, who apparently offered to help.
The trio offered to drive the man to a 7-Eleven and he even paid them for their trouble.
The Audi driver then filled up a jerry can full of fuel and was escorted back to his car.
But as he was refuelling, one of the men and the woman jumped inside his car and allegedly drove off, stealing the Audi.
“The key was already in the vehicle and they drove off in his vehicle, so the van and the vehicle left the male on the side of the road,” Acting Superintendent Chris Tritton said.
“What he thought were helpful members of the public have taken advantage of (him).”
On Saturday the alleged joyride came to an end in Ashgrove when the Audi crashed into three parked cars and a tree.

The pair in the vehicle allegedly tried to flee, but police caught up with a 22-year-old woman.
She was arrested and charged with several offences, including the unlawful use of a motor vehicle
The two male alleged accomplices remain on the run.
