Gold Coast family claims pet purebred corgi Haku was 'stolen' by pet-sitter

A Queensland dog owner claims her pet corgi was "stolen" by a couple who were pet-sitting while she went abroad.

Carmen Pham, from Labrador on the Gold Coast, was heading overseas and asked family friends to look after her four-year-old pet corgi Haku until she returned.

Ms Pham says she only left the dog in their care temporarily while she and her family went overseas to deal with a family matter.

When Ms Pham and her family returned from overseas, the Gold Coast was in COVID-19 lockdown.

Ms Pham alleges the man who was looking after Haku took a liking to her amid the restrictions.

Ms Pham said at the time she was happy to leave Haku with their friend for a week longer, because the man was enjoying her company.

But months later, and despite their best efforts, Haku has still not been returned.

She is now alleging the man is refusing to return the four-year-old purebred and has disappeared.

"I always trusted him, he seemed to be a very nice guy," Ms Pham said.

"After lockdown I did approach and say maybe I should get my dog back (because) it's after the lockdown."

Kirilly Cull, the founder of the Missing and Stolen Pets Queensland Facebook page, is helping to try and get Haku back.

"The person who stole Haku has been approached by police and has now gone into hiding," Ms Cull claimed.

"The dog is microchipped and legally registered in Carmen's name."

Ms Pham issued a message to the man she said stole the beloved pet.

"You need to return my Haku, I can't take it anymore. It's taking such a toll on me," Mr Pham pleaded.

Police are investigating the matter.
