Gas tanker crash in Qld kills one person

A gas tanker has crashed in Queensland, killing one person and injuring another.

It's believed the tanker rolled on the Captain Cook Highway at Ellis Beach, north of Cairns, about 7.20pm on Monday.

The 56-year-old driver has been taken to Cairns Base Hospital with serious injuries.

His passenger, who's believed to be a 39-year-old woman, died at the scene.

Police declared an emergent situation because of gas leaking from the tanker and the highway remains closed.
