Former Bronco Chris Johns faces court

Former rugby league international Chris Johns has appeared in court over an incident near a Brisbane hotel.

The Broncos Hall of Fame player fronted the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with committing a public nuisance on February 20 outside the popular Caxton Hotel, near the club's home ground at Suncorp Stadium.

Johns, 51, did not enter a plea and no details of the charge were read out.

Lawyer Angelo Venardos requested a one-week adjournment.

He said there were "significant discrepancies" between the documented police allegations and CCTV footage of the alleged incident.

"We want some further opportunity to have some discussions with police about those," he told the magistrate.

The case will return to court on March 26.

Johns, who played 245 top-grade matches, began his rugby league career with St George in 1984 before becoming a foundation player for Brisbane in 1988.

He retired in 1996 after playing 10 Origin matches for NSW and nine Tests for Australia.

Johns, who lives in Brisbane, worked as a top official for both the Broncos and Melbourne Storm following his retirement.
