Flegg's ex-staffer in court over 'threats'

Queensland MP Bruce Flegg's former media adviser has briefly appeared in court over accusations he made threats and demands against the government.

The state's crime and corruption watchdog last month issued Graeme Hallett with a notice to appear in court for making "demands with menaces upon agencies of government".

The Crime and Corruption Commission alleges that after Mr Hallett was sacked by Dr Flegg in November 2012, he threatened to release information and make a complaint to police unless he was re-hired in another government role.

Dr Flegg was the state housing minister when he fired Mr Hallett.

Mr Hallett held a press conference the day after being let go and claimed his former boss lied to parliament by failing to record the extent of contact his office had with his lobbyist son.

The following day, Dr Flegg stood down as minister saying it had come to his attention that there were "administrative failures" about which he had not previously known.

The case was adjourned to August 18.

Mr Hallett was granted bail.

Mr Hallett later refused to comment to the media, but his lawyer Kris Jahnke told reporters his client vigorously denies the allegations, and will be contesting the case to the fullest extent.
