Patrol car destroyed after Queensland police beat building gutted by suspicious fire

A Mount Isa police beat shopfront in northwest Queensland has been destroyed by a fire believed to have been deliberately lit.

Several residents made triple-zero calls when the building on Short Street, Pioneer, went up in flames about 1.45am this morning.

The blaze destroyed everything inside the building, including ammunition which caused a number of explosions.

A police car was also destroyed.

The incident is being treated as suspicious, Detective Inspector Chris Hodgman said.

"Nobody's been injured, there was nobody present at that time," he told the ABC.

"We've currently got an investigation centre running to see if we can identify any suspects."

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area to contact authorities.
