Fire at north Qld shopping centre

Firefighters are battling a blaze at a shopping centre on the Whitsunday coast in northern Queensland.

Emergency services were called to the fire at Cannonvale at around 7.15pm on Sunday as the blaze engulfed a Target store and surrounding businesses, including shops and banks.

Police said firefighters had contained the blaze to the centre's western side and the cause was not yet known.

It's believed one firefighter has been treated for heat exhaustion but no other injuries have been reported.

Police said they would guard the scene overnight.
