Executions should be delayed: lawyer

Bali Nine ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran should not be executed until allegations their sentencing judges offered leniency in exchange for money are fully investigated, their Australian lawyer says.

Peter Morrissey says the case should be reopened if the claims are substantiated.

"I'm sure the Indonesian government won't want to be executing anyone while this is hanging in the air," he told Southern Cross Austereo on Monday.

The corruption allegations are contained in a complaint to the Indonesian Judicial Commission by Chan and Sukumaran's legal team.

Last week the pair's former lawyer, Muhammad Rifan, alleged "interference" in the case had resulted in them being sentenced to death when they should have been jailed for life.

Their current lawyers have requested a meeting with Indonesia's attorney-general to ask for the executions to be delayed, pending further legal challenges.

If the request is denied, Chan and Sukumaran could be executed within the week.

Their lawyers have also lodged a challenge of the presidential decrees that denied the pair clemency without examining their cases or giving reasons.

"Their laws say look at every case individually ... they are flying in the face of their own laws," Mr Morrissey said.

He said it had been an honour to work on the case, describing Chan and Sukumaran as "wonderful blokes".
