Elderly woman dragged from burning car by Good Samaritan after Gold Coast crash

An elderly Gold Coast woman has been plucked from her car moments before it exploded following a crash this morning.

The woman, aged in her mid-70s, was travelling on Edinburgh Road in Benowa at about 10.15am when she left the road, drove over a bollard, and ploughed into a tree.

The Audi sedan began to fill with smoke, however the driver was still inside the car in a daze from the crash and was unable to move.

A passing cyclist came to the woman's aid and dragged her free from the Audi sedan just before the vehicle exploded into flames.

"She's got out before the car's exploded, I could see the flames and the smoke from Gold Coast University when we left," QLD Ambulance Service paramedic Jason Hacker said.

Smoke could be seen across much of the Gold Coast following the crash.

The woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital as a precaution and will be interviewed by police.

It is unknown who the Good Samaritan is, as he left the scene immediately after he realised the woman was okay.
