Elderly man dragged from burning home by neighbours

An elderly Sunshine Coast man’s life has been saved by his neighbours after they pulled him from his burning home.  

The man, who lives alone, triggered a panic alarm when fire broke out in the front room of his home just before 1am (AEST).

The alarm woke his neighbours, two of whom risked their lives when they broke down the back door and the dragged the man to safety.

The man was administered first aid by one of the women, who is a nurse.

Police praised the woman who helped the man from the inferno.

“[It was] very brave. She didn’t have to do it,” Senior Sergeant Scott Nolan said.

“She made that decision and as a result, the elderly gentleman is alive.”

Fire investigators are investigating the cause of the blaze.
