DV hotline needs funds to meet demand

There are fears a domestic violence helpline could miss calls from desperate women if it doesn't meet a looming funding shortfall.

The Women's Legal Service Queensland says it would need to "drastically" cut its statewide helpline for women fleeing domestic violence unless the state government can meet a $300,000 shortfall in federal government funding by July 1.

Women's Minister Shannon Fentiman says while no extra money has been allocated yet, her department has already talked to WLSQ about the shortfall.
