Cotton farmer builds massive water slide for local kids

The closest beach is a four hour drive and the mercury regularly blazes past the 40 degree mark, but cotton farmer Nathan Tippenden has come up with a novel way to beat the heat.

The Darling Downs man has rolled out a massive cotton module tarp down a sloped dam wall, covered it in truck wash and invited local youths over for a day of fun, ABC reports.

"I spent a fair bit of time with a hand rake trying to get all the bumps and wobbles out of it," he said.

Kids flock from all over to fling themselves down the slide and in to the water below, making the most of their own version of a waterpark.

It has become an annual event at the cotton farm and despite this year being one marked by drought and hardship Mr Tippenden won't be deterred from building the massive slide he has become famous for.

"We are starting to irrigate now and the water level is dropping, but so far we have enough to keep the cotton and waterslide going," he said.
