Contraband found on Qld jail perimeter

A cache of banned items has been found along the perimeter of a southeast Queensland jail.

Corrective Services sniffer dogs were patrolling the Palen Creek Correctional Centre on Wednesday when they detected the items including a mobile phone, sim cards, lighters and several packets of tobacco.

Located 100 km south of Brisbane, the jail is a low-security facility housing 170 male prisoners.

A QCS spokesman said the department had a "zero tolerance approach" to contraband.

"No matter the reason, if a person attempts to introduce contraband into QCS property or facilities, there are consequences," he said.

Anyone attempting to or who smuggles a banned item into a Queensland prison faces up to two years behind bars.
